INVITATION TO APPLY  For selection as an artist at the TE KUPENGA BIENNIAL INTERNATIONAL STONE SCULPTURE SYMPOSIUM 2020

To be held on the Foreshore, New Plymouth, NEW ZEALAND 3 January – 24 January 2020.
The Symposium will be followed by a one week Foreshore exhibition of the finished works
culminating in a public auction on Saturday 1 February 2020

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATIONPROCESS

1. PLEASE SUBMIT AN ELECTRONIC COPY OF YOUR COMPLETED APPLICATION  (  to tekupenga.symposium@gmail.com before 1 JUNE 2019 with subject line Application YOUR NAME (surname first)

1. The Symposium will be held in New Zealand on the New Plymouth Foreshore from Friday 3 January 2020 to Friday 24 January 2020 and will commence with a formal Maori powhiri (welcome ceremony).

2. Symposium participants are expected to contribute positively and collaboratively to the Symposium experience.

3. 25 sculptors will be selected by the selection committee.   A decision will be made by 15 June 2019 and ALL applicants will be advised. The decision of the selection committee is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

4. The medium for Te Kupenga Symposia is Taranaki Andesite, a hard volcanic stone, supplied by Te Kupenga and presented in rough boulders of approximately 0.5 to 1 m3 each.

5. No personal technical assistants are used at this Symposium. Artists do their own work. 

6. The Symposium takes place in a public space.  Respect for the public and adherence to the New Zealand health and safety regulations are essential. Further information will be given on acceptance.

7. Artists must comply with the local District Council by-laws which include a ban on smoking and alcohol at the Foreshore site.

8. A Catalogue of Works will be published after the Symposium and a free copy will be posted to each participating artist. Further copies may be purchased.

 
ACCOMMODATION & TRAVEL

1. Te Kupenga will pay accommodation for international artists only. National and local artists are to make their own arrangements.

2. Lunches will be provided on site for all artists. Dinner will be provided for International artists only.

3. All travel expenses are the responsibility of the participating artist.

 
COMMITMENT

1. Artists will undertake to attend for the full three weeks of the Symposium(Friday 3 January 2020 to Friday 24 January 2020) including the opening and closing ceremonies.

2. New Zealand artists will pay a $150 commitment fee on acceptance.  International artists are exempt from this fee.

3. All international artists must send proof of travel bookings by 1 September at the latest.  Any artist not providing this proof will be automatically replaced by a sculptor on the reserve list.

 
TOOLS

1. All artists must bring their own tools and safety equipment.  Further details will be supplied to successful applicants.

2. International artists only will be provided with a 230 mm and 125 mm angle grinder for use during the Symposium.  

3. A storage container for tools is available on site.

4. Electric power, water and compressed air will be supplied on site by Te Kupenga.

5. Lifting equipment will be provided on site for artists to use.

 
EXHIBITION & AUCTION

1. A public outdoor exhibition of works completed during the Symposium will be held on the New Plymouth Foreshore from Sunday 26 January 2020 for one week, ending with a public auction on  Saturday 1 February 2020.

2. Artists agree, on accepting a place in the Symposium, that their finished works (maximum of two) will be available for the Foreshore exhibition and that images of their work at the Symposium may be used without charge by Te Kupenga on the website, in the Catalogue of Works and other publicity.

3. There will be no pre-auction sales or commissions allowed. Further details about the conditions for exhibition and auction will be sent to successful applicants.

 
COMMISSION

1. All work made at the Symposium will attract 20% commission payable to the Te Kupenga Society when sold at the auction or for up to 12 months after the Symposium.

 
UNSOLD WORK

1. Any sculpture not sold at auction may be removed by the artist OR stored at the Te Kupenga Stone Sculpture Society club site for up to one year, where it will be for sale to the public on behalf of the artist.  After 12 months, unless removed, it becomes property of Te Kupenga Stone Sculpture Society.

STEP 2: DOWNLOAD the following fillable application pdf form to your computer:

STEP 3:  OPEN Adobe Reader DC FIRST and then use it to open the pdf form

· Use your computer to fill in the form.

· Check you can upload the images by clicking in the grey picture box for your profile picture and click on the selection box BROWSE. Select the image from your computer and click OPEN. It should load into the form. (If you do not see the BROWSE message you may need to download the form again and make sure you only open it from inside the Adobe Reader DC.form)

· Type your text into the text boxes.

· Photos of your work must be 300 - 500k (max) preferably as jpeg images.  If your image is shown side wards, reduce the image size.

· Scan your signature as a jpeg and crop to fit. Click in the signature box, browse and upload.

STEP 4: SAVE WITH YOUR NAME

· "Save as" naming the file with YOUR FAMILY NAME FOLLOWED BY YOUR INITIALS  (e.g.. Smith A), This allows us to keep track of applications in alphabetical order.

STEP 5: SEND US YOUR COMPLETED APPLICATION:
