ISSA Norway / Chinese Calligraphy Stone Carvings Appear on Rock Walls in the Fjord Region

The 13th Os International Sculpture Symposium, also known as the ISSA Norway Station, was held in Os, Norway, 

from June 21 to July 3. Since its establishment, the event has been organized by the Os Cultural Development Agency.

Five sculptors gathered in Os for two weeks, living with local families while creating sculptural works. Local residents

 were invited to meet the artists and experience the entire process of sculpture creation firsthand.

Five of the sculptures were purchased in advance by art collectors without having seen the actual works beforehand.

 It was not until the final day, when they took part in a draw to determine the order of priority for selection, that 

the collectors learned which work they would receive.

In addition, several new sculptural works were added to the Os wharf area. This marks the continuation of 

a multi-year project through which sculptors have left enduring marks in the city.

The theme was “On the Road,” a phrase carved into stone in the native languages of the participating artists. 

This year, Chinese cliffside calligraphy stone carvings were added to the project. According to the organizers, 

these works bring global cultures together in the center of Os and leave a lasting imprint for future generations.

We are also delighted that ISSA participated in this event, and we look forward to seeing the project continue to

 grow and develop in the future.

The participating artists were: Elias Naman, Usama Alnassar from Syria/Italy, Liu Yang and Liu Qin from China, 

and Marta Fernandez Martinez from Spain/Italy.
