The 8th Vire Riverside Art Festival, also known as the ISSA France Symposium, was held in Normandy from June
19 to July 17. Organized by the Usine Utopik Art Center, this important event focusing on artistic creation in public
spaces lasted nearly a month, allowing the public to learn about the work of artists-in-residence and observe
the creative process behind their artworks.

The symposium brought together four international artists, each with distinctive creative approaches and uses
of materials: Juan Miguel Cubas completed a sculpture made of carbon steel and granite; Esther Seguin created
the wood sculpture Bird of Paradise; Renate Verbrugge produced a sculpture in black marble; and Noemí Palacios
created The Last Journey, also made of Marquina black marble.
These works were unveiled on July 17 and will be exhibited successively. In the autumn, they will enrich
the permanent art exhibition of 25 works along the barge canal extending by the Vire River, located between
Pont-Farcy and Saint-Lô. This 32-kilometer route connects the two municipalities and transforms the valley into
a true open-air museum.
