ISSA Honduras / An Open-Air Museum in the Caribbean

The 8th Cantarranas International Sculpture Symposium, also known as the ISSA Honduras Symposium, was held 

in Honduras from July 17 to 31. Artists from Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras completed six sculptures during 

the event.

The theme of this year’s symposium was “Cultural Fusion.” The participating artists included Andres Juares

from Mexico; Arianka Lopez and Mauro Yujcom from Guatemala; and Roberto Cultura and Emin Mendez from 

Honduras. The EMACAN Art School of Cantarranas, Honduras, also took part in the event.

The school offers courses in sculpture, painting, and drawing, as well as dance and music classes for children 

aged eight and above.

Cantarranas is one of the most artistic municipalities in Honduras. It is home to an art museum and the largest 

outdoor art venue in Central America, featuring 300 murals and 130 sculptures. Cantarranas is also known as the

 “City of Selfies.”
