Risto Immonen, Renowned Finnish Sculptor, Dies at 72

On June 11, ISSA member Risto Immonen passed away in his house in Rovaniemi at the age of 72. Immonen was a professor at the University of Lapland, the founder and creative director of Ivalo Arctic Art Week, as well as ISSA's associate member in Finland.

For his extraordinary achievement in wood, metal, and ice sculpting, the Association of Finnish Sculptors awarded Immonen the lifetime achievement award. Since he first founded the Artic Art week at Kakslauttanen in 2010, the hundreds of sculptures that were created there had become a distinguished tourist attraction.
