The first Samarkand International Sculpture Symposium, which lasted for one month, ended on September 10. The sculptures were carefully prepared for the upcoming SCO summit in Uzbekistan. The sculptors were also from various SCO countries. The only regret was that the invited Chinese sculptor representative, Liu Yang, was absent because of the pandemic. It made this cultural event miss the Chinese element that should not be missing the most.
This sculpture symposium is an important element of the SCO Summit 2022, which was advocated in person by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and opened in the presence of Aziz Abdukhakimov, Deputy Prime Minister of the country and Minister of Culture and Tourism Heritage, and Ibrahim Valikhozhaev, President of the Art Federation. With the conclusion of the event, this symposium also initiated the process of applying for membership in the International Sculpture Symposium Alliance. In the near future, ISSA will have an symposium located in this ancient city on the Silk Road.
Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a permanent intergovernmental international organization declared by China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in Shanghai, China on June 15, 2001, and later granted membership to India, Pakistan and Iran.
