Emir of Kuwait and Sultan of Oman unveiled sculpture created by ISSA member

Recently, the Emir of Kuwait and the Sultan of Oman jointly unveiled a sculpture of the Duqum Oil Refinery

created by ISSA member Ali Al Jabri. Ali Al Jabri had designed the sculpture commemorating

the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Oman last year at

the floating sculpture park project in Hulan, China, the only public sculpture he has left in China to date.

Inspired by the iconic image of the owl ship, the unveiling sculpture for the Duqum Refinery in the Sultanate

of Oman tells the story of the shared maritime history between the Sultanate of Oman and the State of

Kuwait. The sculpture was carved in black Omani marble by Omani sculptor Dr. Ali Al Jabri and rests on

a white marble base. The Duqum Refinery was inaugurated with the generous support of His Majesty Sultan

Haitham bin Tariq and his brother, His Highness Sheikh Mishal, the Sultan of Oman. Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber

Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait, paved the way for a new era of partnership between the GCC countries.

The refinery, with an investment value of $9 billion, adds value to the global energy market by providing

high-quality petroleum products and contributes to the enhancement of the refining capacity of

the Sultanate of Oman by about 500,000 barrels per day.

The Omani sculptor, Ali Al Jabri, was born in 1980 in the city of Sohar, and grew up in an environment

mixed with science and literature, and his artistic direction was formed after his academic studies of

art education at the bachelor’s stage, to the aesthetics and practices of arts at the doctoral stage.

He has experimented with a wide range of sculptural materials and techniques since 2012, culminating

in the combination of wood and marble to reflect relationships and concepts related to life and human

beings.

Ali Al Jabri is certified as a 1+ International Sculptor because of his international presence. This includes

leaving public artworks in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, Monaco, France, Spain, UAE,
