Renowned French sculptor Nicolae Fleissig passed away on July 14 at the age of 76. He left behind 121

large-scale public sculptures in 27 countries during his more than 50-year career and was one of the first

2+ international sculptors to be certified by the International Sculpture Symposium Alliance (ISSA) in 2020.

Nicolae Fleissig was born in Tirgu Mures, Romania in 1948. He graduated from the Bucharest University of

Fine Arts (Sculpture Section ) in 1973, and went into exile in France in 1981 to escape the Ceausescu regime.

In 1982 he settled in Sainte Colombe, Aude, France, where he had lived and worked ever since.

Nicolae Fleissig's sculptures have been noticed in Paris and are in the collections of French President François

Mitterrand and Mrs. Chirac. In the 1990s he created an art center that would operate until 2007 in

 Sainte Colombe.

Nicolae Fleissig was also renowned worldwide, having left 121 large-scale public sculptures in 27 countries in

a career spanning more than 50 years, and was thus certified as one of the first 2+ international sculptors by

Nicolae Fleissig's sculptures have a unique artistic expression, full of rhythmic small squares, which are his

beautiful gift to the world.
