Bø Arctic International Sculpture Symposium, and ISSA Norway was held on the island of Bø in northern Norway in Bodø, the northernmost city. The event is part of Bodø 2024, which is Norway's biggest cultural project in more than 10 years, with more than 1,000 events throughout the year. It is also the biggest cultural project ever in northern Norway. As a result Bodø has been awarded the status of European Capital of Culture in 2019.
Seven sculptors from five continents come to the island of Bø, which has 1,350 islands and is originally populated by the Habita people. The county of Nordland, where Bø is situated, consists of vibrant cities, deep fjords, mountains and wild nature, and is the most beautiful place in Norway.
The artist spent two weeks making the sculptures from local granite. The materials for the sculptures are stones
collected from the island's beaches, and the sculptures will be permanently available to the public. They will
be placed on a historic road in Bø. The historic road is being developed as part of the project. In the future,
at each sculpture, a picnic area with primitive benches has been set up so that hikers can calm their minds
and bodies, reflect on life, enjoy the art, and take in the beauty of nature before hiking further. Many will utilize
the journey from the museum over the wilderness all the way to the beautiful Bø Church.
