Tartus is a major port city on the Mediterranean coast of Syria. It is the second largest port city in Syria,
with a history dating back to the 2nd millennium BC, when it was founded as a Phoenician colony of Aradus.
During the summer months, it is a vacation destination for many Syrians. Many resorts and vacation villages
are located in the area.
