ISSA Egypt\ A Group of Artists in the Desert Created 300 Monolithic Sculptures in 30 Years

The 29th Aswan International Sculpture Symposium, and ISSA Egypt, was held in the famous Egyptian tourist city

of Aswan from January 14th to February 22nd, where eight sculptors from five countries, as well as three young

sculptors from Egypt, completed their works.

This year, development extended beyond the artworks to include improvements to the working environment.

The site has been redesigned and engineered to provide sculptors with a more comfortable and efficient space,

fostering creativity and offering optimal working conditions. In addition to supporting Egyptian and international

artists, the symposium continues to train new generations of sculpture assistants, who have become an essential

part of the sculptural scene not only in Egypt but also in international symposia across the region. Thus,

the symposium remains a dynamic platform for artistic dialogue and cultural exchange, reinforcing Egypt’s

position as a global center for sculpture.

The Aswan International Sculpture Symposium is not only an artistic gathering, but an evolving experience

that redefines the art of granite sculpture. Artists from all over the world come together to exchange ideas

and shape new creative visions, cementing the symposium's position as one of the most important international

platforms in the field.

The "Aswan Open-Air Sculpture Museum" stands as one of Egypt’s most remarkable artistic landmarks and

a testament to the symposium’s legacy. Over three decades, its unique collection has been shaped by artists

from more than 30 countries, featuring over 300 sculptures that exhibit diverse styles and artistic expressions.

Displayed in a breathtaking natural setting that harmonizes with Aswan’s distinctive topography and rich

history, this collection is one of the rarest of its kind worldwide. Therefore, developing the museum is a natural

extension of the symposium’s mission, ensuring the preservation of this artistic heritage for future generations.

Finally, we extend our deepest appreciation to all who have contributed to the success of this significant artistic

event. We remain committed to supporting the symposium and the open-air museum, fostering cultural dialogue,

and building bridges of understanding through art.
