ISSA Nantou\ Back to the Primitive, Handmade Sculptures in the mountains

The 4th "Unplugged Stone Sculpture Symposium" and ISSA Nantou was held in early April at the Rolling Stone

Tribe in Nantou. The four days and three nights of creation, unplugged and hand-knocked, were characterized

by slow and meticulous work. The texture of the stone, the original shape and texture of the stone, there is

more time to observe, feel and recreate.

Without the swiftness of pneumatic or electric tools, there is no mention of completing a "complete" work in

four short days, but because of this, the "process of creation" is the core value that this "Unplugged" symposium

 emphasizes.

The slowness of the process awakens the beginner's mind; by observing carefully, the dialogue can be established,

and only then can we follow the original pattern of the stone and start to create.

Each session of the Unplugged Stone Sculpture Symposium is held in different venues to train participants to break

 away from the limitations of the customary stone and discover the characteristics of the stone from different places;

this time, in addition to the local sculptors, we also invited two international artists: Lin Xiuyi (Singapore), Hitoshi

Tanaka (Japan) to participate in the exchange of ideas. The experience of pure hand-knocking also allowed artists

and creators from home and abroad to share the simplicity of stone sculpture and realize the new inspiration brought

by slow creation.

Artists participating in this event include Hsu Ching-Fu, Chang Chia-Ming, Chang Shu-Wei, Tsang Chun-Ho,

Ho Chun-Ming, Liao Wing-Yuan, Choi Yi-Jun, Chan Wing-Ming, Lai Yi-Guang, Wong Kwok-Fung, Lau Teng-Huang, Wong

Yu-Fung, as well as students of the School of Fine Arts and art enthusiasts.
